Children were the muse for many Spring 2010 collections. With the same idea in mind, designers chose to distinguish their collections from others by pulling inspiration from the different decades. Alexander Wang starts us off with the most classic of apparel styles; 1940’s paperboy.

It’s hard to imagine that just two short years ago, we were living in a Lady Gaga-free world. Since then, this petite fire ball of a woman has earned six Grammy Award nominations and two wins with her debut album, The Fame, and created a jaw dropping style that’s… ohhh… let’s just say… outside of the box.

Last Spring, Missoni wowed us with stunning yellow silks in bold patterns (below left). For spring 2010, the Italian Fashion House used the same design concept of pattern and color, but did it in a more subdued, romantic way (below right). Sheer, kaleidoscopic patterns replaced large bold shapes, while soft breezy yellows replaced vibrant hues. The 2010 collection had the same cheerful effect, but was achieved in a more simplistic way.

We’re really getting down to the nitty gritty now with Season 9’s American Idol contestants. With each needing to set themselves apart from the rest, we’ve been witness to some serious trademark styles. Andrew Garcia’s love for over-sized black specs is a prime example. But, is his trademark unique enough? Just throw American Idol judge, Randy Jackson, into the mix and all of a sudden Mr. Garcia’s love for this style of glasses is overshadowed by Randy’s ever evolving collection of frames.

The dark and mysterious Twilight saga meets the bright eyed and bushy tailed girls of Cycle 14’s America’s Next Top Model with a seductively eerie Vampire photo shoot. I gotta hand it to Tyra Banks, she sure does know how to put these poor girls through the ringer.
